Lessons and More!

A garden does not belong to any one subject.  Here true authentic learning can take place, which means there are opportunities for Science, Art, Language Arts, Mathematics, History and more.

It is important not to take away from the connections between nature, people, and ideas that can be found in a garden.  The attitudes that students develop by participating in lessons and by simply being in the garden are simply too important to ignore.  After all, "What good is education without love?" (Catherine Adams - Kwakiutl Elder).  Connections are essential to First Nations education as it is generally believed that, "nothing is simply a cause or an effect, but the expression of the interconnectedness of life".  However, this is not just a North American Indigenous person concept.  The Australian Indigenous people learned by connecting different ideas and I think we all can agree that all students learn better when lessons are placed in context.
